I used to make films, here are some of them.
Art Prison, 2014
TRAILER
Inspired in style by video art, experimental theatre, the rough and ready films of the Dogme movement and strange 60s television plays Art Prison is a new work by art worker and ex-prison librarian Anthony John Garrett. A satire of art and ideology, filmed entirely in a ‘white cube’ environment, Art Prison features over twenty performers including the inimitable Nigel Buckland and a soundtrack by one-woman electronic band Joypette.

When waitress Molly (Danielle Boucher) makes an enemy of the nation's greatest artist Titus (Nigel Buckland), she finds herself imprisoned in this environment. Her only hope is to master the art of advanced artb*llocks with the help of an old lag (James Harris), and beat the system at its own game.

AJ's Instant Pen Pals, 2012
AJ's Instant Pen Pals from AJ Garrett on Vimeo.
In February '12 I engineered a letter writing drawing/tea drinking social experiment that took place in the The Old Young Tea House and mima café in Middlesbrough. And we made a film about it, that was commissioned by the good folks at Middlesbrough Art Development who showed it on the enormous screen in centre square (visible early in the video) as part of the AV Festival 2012.
Special Thanks to everyone that helped and took part!
Cement Factory, 2010 - producer, director with Sheena Cox, co-screen play with Sheena Cox, James Harris, John Noble and Craig Thornton. Starring James Harris, Craig Thornton, John Noble and Sheena Cox. Music by Oli Heffernan. Filmed on location using a flip ultra in Middlesbrough and edited on my knackered laptop in Green Dragon Studios, Stockton-on-Tees. Black and white 33mins long.
Cement Factory is a satirical murder fantasy about a young woman who has a crushing existence in a cement manufacturing business in an unspecified future time and place. She is surrounded by grotesque male colleagues and everyone is essentially doomed.
We filmed everything in one day then gradually edited it. As both my and Sheena's first film there are plenty of things that are a bit iffy, but some good things too, including Oli's brilliant score. We made it on zero budget, and wanted it to be very "un-slick" (mission accomplished).
The film was previewed at 'Square Eyes Picture House' Middlesbrough Film Festival, June 25th 2011. I would love to work with everyone involved again.
