In this unconventional and informal workshop led by AJ Garrett, you are challenged to create a portrait of a personality from popular culture using watercolour. Inspired by the techniques and subjects of British artist Margaret Harrison – whose pieces made in this medium have included images of Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner and Bettie Page – the images can range from the sensitive to the satirical. You receive a dossier with photographs and a biography of a famous figure; how you paint the person is up to you. This activity is open to all and, through discussion and by sharing knowledge, you can develop your painting skills, try something different and most of all, have fun.
Free with materials provided. To book, please contact mima reception 01642 931232 or email a.j.garrett@tees.ac.uk
